Home Sweet Home: with Homestudio-Lab (Shari Hersh and Beth Enson)

Home Studio Lab will lead an interactive workshop that will provide a framework for participants to share their own family histories surrounding their homes, and how the Federal Housing Administration, the GI Bill, and the practices of racial covenants and redlining impacted their family history. Participants will use their shared stories to draw/stitch pictures and/or write family narratives, that will be collected for side-by-side display, and will serve as entry points for reflective discussion on alternative perspectives of privilege and wealth. The results will be added to the Panorama as well as form a sewn resource book.

Gentrification has been the cause of painful conflict in many American cities. This 3-hour session tells the story of Philadelphia neighborhoods and the removal of historically oppressed communities, from the early 20th century until present times. We will explore examples of community solidarity as it relates to urban resistance and identify solutions to this collective problem.
