Gee Wesley is an artist and organizer born in Monrovia, Liberia. Wesley is the current Spiegel Wilks Curatorial Fellow at the Institute of Contemporary Art, University of Pennsylvania where he has organized public events and performances with artists including: Black Quantum Futurism, Andrew Durbin, Juliana Huxtable, Jacolby Satterwhite, METROPOLARITY, and SCRAAATCH.
Prior to joining ICA in 2014, Wesley held positions at The Barnes Foundation, International House Philadelphia, and the Fleisher Art Memorial. Since 2014, Wesley has served as Senior Research and Curatorial Fellow at Slought and as co-organizer of Living Library, a public art initiative commissioned by Asian Arts Initiative. Wesley is a co-founder of Ulises, a bookshop and curatorial platform dedicated to artists’ books and independent art publications.
Wesley is a graduate of Penn State University, where he received his degree in Visual Arts Studies. As an undergraduate, Wesley was the recipient of the Kenneth M. Kuhn Memorial Award for Visual Art; the Visual Art Studies Travel Grant; the Zoller Art Award; and scholarships to attend Haystack Mountain School of Craft and Penland School of Craft.
