Visages of the Underground: Sanctuary Move-In Performance
Starting from a place that creates true sanctuary, Amber Art & Design will carry craned birds from Broad Street Ministry throughout the city along migratory bird routes, referencing modes of travel and the ways in which our infrastructure mirrors the pathways of animals, weather, and natural resources. Making stops along the way, Amber Arts will dress in costume, emphasizing their bodies in space as ‘the other’ - standing out both in travel and in rest - so as to reference displacement and migration as they are experienced within this city.
Route: Broad Street Ministry → Broad Street → through City Hall → JFK Blvd → Philadelphia Museum of Art
This is part of the Amber Art & Design series of Move-In performances, Visages of the Underground, taking place the week of August 14, 2017. At each site, Amber Arts will invite participants to join in organic movement and interaction throughout their travels. Each performance will have a designated starting location and end at the Perelman Building of the Philadelphia Museum of Art located at 2525 Pennsylvania Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19130.
