As a continuation of the recent ICA Gather X Laos in the House pop-up dinner, the traveling sanctuary dome will be stationed at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia. Connecting various visions of sanctuary together, this mobile geodesic dome functions as a “StoryBooth” which allows guests to share their stories through written, audio or video recordings. The interior design draws inspiration from a wat, the Lao Buddhist temple - a place that has provided sanctuary for many Lao American refugees after having been resettled so far away from their homeland - with imagery of symbols seen during Lao celebrations adorning the panels and a saht, Lao rug, on the floor.
